SEL Strategies for the Classroom
Strategy #1
Start class with a simple check-in activity. Use sticky notes, anonymous surveys, or apps like Google Forms where students share how they’re feeling using emojis, one word responses, or reflection prompts. It gives students a moment to reflect and gives you insight into who might need extra support.
Strategy #2
"Coping Toolbox"
Activities help students develop a personal coping toolbox.
- Deep breathing exercises
- Music play lists
- using a journal
- coloring
Let the child find out what method works for them.

Self Regulation With Teens
Be transparent about your own coping strategies. Ex. I am overwhelmed and I need to take a deep breath before I continue.
Talk about emotions and boundaries. Ex: We will talk about the problem after class when things have calmed down.
